A Break for Spring

I saw these few bluebonnets on my walk in the neighborhood last week. And two days later saw my first redbud tree in bloom. These are harbingers of spring in my part of Texas.

Then a cold front blew through and the early morning temperature was in the thirties, and the forecast calls for highs in the nineties later in the week. These variations are also part of the move into spring.

The middle school next to our neighborhood is quiet and the university campus up the street is sort of empty, through the favorite lawns by the river are still full of sunbathers. All signals that spring is upon us.

It’s good to remember that spring does return after winter. And it’s as true in our lives as it is in the rhythms in nature. A deep breath, some time outside, and if you are so inclined spending some time planting a new plant to enjoy as the season progresses, are all good things to do at the end of winter.

Some of you still have the tail end of winter to get through. Others are still in your personal winter. Either way, the above acts are still healthy and useful to do on the way to spring.

And this week, I’m practicing what I just preached by writing a short note and then taking time to be outside, and enjoy the new blooms showing up daily. Even if you don’t actually get time off for Spring Break, taking a break for spring is a worthwhile action.

Enjoy your own break for spring.

Take care,

Gage
