Leadership Yoga

On March 23rd, ten weeks ago, we began this journey through the ideas of Leadership Yoga. I started this series with the idea of trying to support each reader through the challenges we were only beginning to experience. I had the idea of writing a book on this, but that would take too long, so I set myself the challenge not only of writing regularly, but publishing something five days a week. There were moments along the way that I wondered why I had thought this was a good idea, and yet for me, it did exactly what it was supposed to do – it kept me writing. It didn’t matter if I was tired at the end of a day when I hadn’t gotten the next day’s newsletter ready, I kept writing. Or, on those days when the newsletter came a bit later, I had written first thing. Writing daily, like exercising daily, like practicing yoga or serving as a leader is a discipline and we each have to find our reason to keep going, to meet the commitment we have made to ourselves or to others.

I hope that these essays have been helpful to each of you in some way. I’ve heard from several people that they have been and that you have enjoyed the meditations and that’s wonderful to know. Today, the daily yoga series ends. Everyone who signed up for the yoga series is still on the list for Gage’s Notes, the newsletter that goes out every Wednesday. Please let me know if you don’t want to be included on that list.

Now, it’s time to turn to the next step – I am going to take these essays and create a book. But more than that, given the uncertainty we face, I’m also going to turn this work into an online class since it may be a while before we can gather for the full workshop. I’ll be sharing updates over the coming weeks and in the not-too-distant future, I’ll be looking for some people who would like to help me with the development of the class – more on that later. I’ll reach out to this newsletter list first with all the exciting new developments, so again, please let me know if you want to opt-out of those occasional emails.

My thanks to each of you for joining me in this experiment. It was great to write to you and to hear from you when you found something I had written or the meditation I recorded helpful. Remember, the main essay from each newsletter and the accompanying meditation are posted on the blog on my webpage, so you can find a meditation anytime you would like a prompt for a short break.

On college campuses, we use the word commencement to describe our graduation ceremonies as students end one experience and prepare to begin another. It seems appropriate here in May that this process is coming to its end and that something more will begin to grow. I hope this is as true for you as it is for me.

Take care, – and don’t forget to stop, breathe, and find moments of calm in your days.

Gage
